Cambridge Experience
Do you know about the history of Cambridge? It started off as a college town, built around the Church of St. Mary’s. This was one of the first things we, the 6A, saw on our one-week-trip to Cambridge, starting on the 26
th of March to the 2
nd of April.
We met our host families very late because we arrived at night. During the week we got to know them better and found out that most of them were very nice. Only a few of them were a bit strange but overall they had nice places for us to stay at. We got around by bike, which turned out to be very exhausting and also quite dangerous at times because we had to accommodate to driving on the left side. However, by riding our bikes we got to know the beautiful city with its medieval city centre even better.
All of us had to do projects on different topics. Our day consisted of fieldwork, where we had to go around and interview people and classwork, where we prepared our presentations. In our lunch breaks we did activities like going punting on the river Cam and visiting the famous King’s College. Our evening-programme was varied and we enjoyed things like doing a ghost tour, going to the theatre and to the cinema or going to the leisure centre.
One of the highlights of our trip was spending our weekend in London. A guide showed us around the city and we saw famous places, like Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and Big Ben. Some of us had an overview of the city, as they went on the London Eye. We spent our free time in London going shopping in Oxford Street and in Covent Garden.
To sum up, we really enjoyed our trip and there was basically nothing that could have ruined our mood. Even the problems we at first had with the bikes were solved quite quickly, as we got used to riding them after a day or two.
If you are planning on going to the UK and you don’t know where to spend your time, then you have to simply come and visit Cambridge and enjoy the atmosphere of this beautiful city!
