Our memorable time in England – 6B language week to Eastbourne
On April 10th, 2024, we landed at London Heathrow Airport. After approximately three hours of travelling by bus, we finally arrived in Eastbourne, where we were picked up by our host families. They welcomed us wholeheartedly, and we shared a dinner with them.
On Thursday morning, the first day of language school started, and in the afternoon, we were thrilled to hike up to Beachy Head. After about three hours of cold, humidity, and fog, we reached the top. Even though the weather didn’t really play into our hands (as it was so misty that we weren’t able to enjoy the usually stunning view) it was a fun and adventurous experience, filled with camaraderie. In the following days, we enjoyed beautiful trips to Hastings, London, Brighton, and Canterbury.
After experiencing the Smugglers Adventure in Hastings on Friday, we had a lot of free time to get to know the picturesque, typically British town and its beautiful beach.
On Saturday, we took an early train to London, where we visited the most famous attractions like the Buckingham Palace, the Westminster Abbey, or Big Ben. Later on, we dared to enter the London Dungeons, where we learned a whole lot about English history, presented in a frightening, evocative way, with actors who brought the experience to life in a spine-tingling manner. After taking a ride on the London Eye, we had the afternoon to ourselves, which most of us used for shopping on the world-famous Oxford Street, wandering around, or visiting other attractions like The National Gallery.
The next day we drove to Brighton, where we did a scavenger hunt, which perfectly combined fun and getting to know the town. Some of us even visited the impressive Brighton Pier.
Our last trip on Monday was to Canterbury, where we went punting, enjoying not only the beautiful nature but also learning a lot about the town’s history.
On Tuesday we had the afternoon off. While some of us went shopping, Professor Panhuber and Kasprzak, along with three students decided to drive up to Beachy Head again, hoping to finally be able to enjoy the landscapes. But as if fate didn’t want them to go there, rain started pouring down when they were hiking the rolling hills. Rain turned quickly into hail, and by the time the group found shelter, it had already stopped. Soaking wet, their bags and clothes dripping, they continued their trip, finding humor in the situation. Even though they were extremely cold, at least this time they were able to admire the breathtaking scenery.
In the evening, we had a lot of fun bowling with our classmates.
On Wednesday morning, we said goodbye to our host families and set off to the airport.
Overall, it was an amazing trip; all of us had a great time and we enjoyed every second of it.
